Microsoft, jQuery, and Templating

Wow, I’ve always said that competition is a wonderful thing (in a well regulated environment of course [I’m not a libertarian / non-realistic idealist]), and watching Microsoft over the past 3 years has been a real eye opener to the power of competition in thought!  I HIGHLY doubt that the MS of 10, or even 5, years ago would have been able to embrace open source, community driven development if it weren’t for the pressure that Google has brought to bear on the development world.

Now if Apple would get on the band wagon, I think computer technology could really begin to SOAR!

Check out this link to Microsoft ditching it’s proprietary Ajax solution and climbing onboard with all resources the jQuery community!

Announcing the Apple iProduct

I usually try to stay away from personal editorials on MS vs. Apple, but with the upcoming “mystery” (yeah, right) announcement, I gotta say, it sure seems like this Mock Ad for the iProduct is so apropos!

A Boy And His Computer - Announcing the Apple iProduct

Announcing the Apple iProduct

Do you like Apple products? Do you live for every product announcement, every incremental upgrade, every rumor and screenshot? Do you wank and blare and drone and fucking gurgle about Apple products morning, noon, and night? Then get ready for iProduct. You'll be blown away. No matter what it is.

And in the interests of fair play, here is the rebuttal!

Apple Haters Unite!

Apple Products. You hate them

Do you hate Apple products? Do you live for every product announcement, every incremental upgrade so you can try to be the first poster to rant about how overpriced Apple products are?  How Apple will go out of business soon?  How everything that comes from Apple – be it iPod, iMac, or Mac mini is really not that original, and nothing special? Then you may already be an Apple Hater.

Get physical path of assembly installed in GAC

OK, I’m going to do something that I’ve read some people hate in blogs, a tech tip for me and my usage because I keep forgetting it, and it’s getting harder and harder to find using Google, people seem to ask about it less and less and it’s going down in the rankings.

How to find the physical path of an assembly from it’s entry in the GAC, turns out it depends.  Also how to shut off the SHFusion shell in Windows Assembly folder

set HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion\DisableCacheViewer [DWORD] to 1

this and other great information about the gac can be found here

Google Feedburner is mucking up links to this blog

If you are subscribed to this blog in feeds.feedburner, be aware that the links to the blog are being rendered incorrectly by Google.  I’m working on it to see if I can make a workaround for their bug.  Use http://www.longcloud.co.nz/Blogs/rss.xml instead.

My new Monitor Setup (4, count them 4)

So following the advice of Scott Hanselman, I bought a TouchScreen Mimo monitor.  VERY cool.

Checkout out my desktop now!  4 monitors (I bet 5 is not far off!)

    2 – 24 inch
    1- 21 inch
    1 – 8 inch touch screen

One piece of advice however, if you are going to buy one, spend the extra money 30 bucks and get the Mimo 720-S instead of the Mimo iMo pivot you see here.  I really like the monitor, but the stand for it is too high and not adjustable.  If you want to use it as I am here on the desktop as a IM / Zune / Windows Media Player window, the 720-S has a better stand system.
